A flatland frame
So I built a flatland frame for myself. I posted pictures of it on Flickr and then accidentally removed them. Technology can be so aggravating sometimes. So instead of reposting them on Flickr, I’ll post a few shots here. I don’t anticipate doing a lot of these projects as I have only made 8 BMX frames over the past 10 years (two were for myself). For this one, I used all True Temper tubing. The tapered chainstays are tandem stays that I got after Burley stopped making tandems.
Getting a new frame always reinvigorates my desire to ride. This time was no different. As I enter my 40s, I can clearly see a lack of progression in my riding. I spend most of my time trying to retain the tricks that I’ve learned over the years. I ride not so much for the progression but for the fitness and the satisfaction. One commenter on Flickr used the term “arrested development” to describe me still riding and it couldn’t be more accurate. I find that riding this flatland bike keeps me young mentally. And not progressing isn’t a big deal to me because I don’t want to sustain any serious injuries anymore. Check out the pics and the video to see where 30 years of BMX can get you. For more videos of me riding, check out the Chapman Cycles Vimeo page.

Two questions, 1. Where are you located?
2. Do you take commissions on building a flatland frame?.
Thanks in advance, frame looks amazing

I’m in Rhode Island. I could build another flatland frame, I guess? I wasn’t planning on it though. 🙂

Wow!
The pure and simple can always inspire and encourage us. All the bikes you make are beautiful (without any cliche surrounding that word)! But this BMX has a “c’mon, RIDE ME!” kind of beauty that only BMX can illicit. There can’t be a person seeing this bike that doesn’t long for it, or at least a tool around the park! So sweet!
