Marcie’s mixte

It was a unique situation when it came to building this bike. I had met Marcie’s husband David at a bicycle event in North Carolina. He was familiar with my work and told his wife who in turn wanted a mixte. Normally I work with one person one on one for the entire process but I quickly realized that this bike was to be a team effort. David had a stash of very unique vintage Italian city bike components and wanted to incorporate them into the build. The rest of the bike was to be built from new components though so there’s a pretty even mix of old and new on this mixte. The Magistroni cottered crankset transcends eras and makes this brand new bike look like a time capsule. The bar, stem, levers, and grips are also vintage and polished and detailed for this bike. And the Columbus and Dedacciai steel and Shimano 3-speed hub with silent clutch make it ride smoothly like a modern bike.

Picking a color for a bike is not an easy task but it is definitely a fun journey. Marcie knew the color she wanted but I was hoping for a metallic so as to highlight the lugs and many of the the details on the frameset. The Rose Quartz Metallic she chose is outstanding! It has a unique depth that really catches the eye. Well, that and the gorgeous chain guard which was designed and manufactured at VéloColour in Toronto. The bike is stunning to say the least. It is guaranteed to turn heads when she’s out on the road.
