The North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) happened back in February and I’m a little delayed in posting anything about it. Unlike other bike shows, this one felt more like a competition than a show. The event was in Hartford, CT which was conveniently within driving distance of my home in Rhode Island.
I displayed a total of four bikes, a tandem, and a trailer which was ambitious for me. I brought the tandem and trailer by the recommendation of my wife, Hilary, as I had a 10×20 booth with plenty of space. I’m sure glad I did because it won first place for best tandem. Two of the other bikes that I brought, Ryan’s road bike and Andy’s single speed, were both runners up in the Best Fillet Brazed and Best Track Bike categories. The ribbons were nice adding some decorations to my modest display.
It was a busy three days of talking which ended with me binge eating lozenges just to mutter anything by the end. Thanks to everyone who came to the show, said hi to me, and checked out the bikes. All in all it was a fun show, albeit a bit stressful. The 2019 show will be happening in Sacramento, CA so I will unfortunately not be attending. I’m actually a little happy about that!
The next three posts will be three of the bikes I brought to the show: Andy’s single speed, Ryan’s road bike, and my 700c light randonneur. The other two bikes, Joe’s Touring Bike and the Tandem and Trailer already have posts so feel free to check those out!
